and tyranny I wanted to personally thank you for the well-written edition of Wayne's Word in the June 3rd issue of Boulder Weekly. It would appear that there are few local journalists with sufficient integrity to question the motives of our "esteemed" Boulder County Commissioners, and I am thankful that you are among them. The arrogance and audacity of the commissioners is almost beyond belief. I was astonished at the statement Stewart made (and I quote from your column): "There have been both Republicans and Democrats in the past who have done that," Stewart said. "It wouldn't be anything that hasn't already been done in this county." As if that makes it acceptable practice. "Hey...everybody's doing it!" Unfortunately, the People's Republic of Boulder is all too willing to accept the pap the commissioners hand down whenever they're questioned by the press or the public. Paul Danish and Jana Mendez are obviously mere mouth pieces for the Stewart agenda, and I for one am tired of hearing their brand of dogma every time serious questions are raised. The glaring impropriety of the Stewart appointment is appalling. Any conscionable elected official would see the obvious conflict of interest. More to the point, the "conspiracy theory" you allude to-of Stewart seeking re-election and then making a segue to the Open Space job, thus bypassing the electoral process for his appointed successor-appears all too probable. I cannot think of a more glaring example of tyranny. Patrick Baker/via email Copyright © 1999 Boulder Weekly. |
